DataPay · Partners
For funders and partners
Two things, and how they fit: a demand-aggregation platform, and the permanent community fund it capitalises.
What this is
DataPay is a demand-aggregation platform. Households answer one question a day and reserve real products; pooled under private aliases and published only above a privacy floor, their answers become product intelligence for sellers — what to make, how much, and where — so markets waste less.
The Commons Fund is what that intelligence capitalises: a permanent endowment that no one owns and no one can withdraw. Its principal is never spent. Its earnings stand behind credit and crop insurance for smallholders and producer groups, and are shared with the neighbourhoods that built it, or left to grow, as each community decides.
The structure
The DataPay platform
Origination and measurement: the app, the demand registry, the delivery network, the ledger. Operated by DataPay.
The Commons Fund
An un-ownable endowment, being set up as a public charitable trust. Capitalised by a fixed share of platform revenue, never by members. Only its yield is ever spent.
Licensed partners
Lending, insurance and disbursement happen through licensed partners — NBFCs, insurers, PACS and FPOs. DataPay does none of these itself.
Who is behind it
- Mission Melukote 31 — The initiative DataPay belongs to: a cooperative of Melukote's farmers, now being registered, and the label any producer can sell under.
- Puttannaiah Foundation — Institutional anchor in Mandya, and the Melukote pilot's home.
- Socratus — Design and knowledge partner.
Where things stand
- The app is in open beta on Google Play; the pilot runs in Melukote constituency, Mandya.
- The first seller is live, with real products households can reserve.
- The Commons Fund is being structured as a trust. Nothing has been paid out yet; sharing begins after the pilot.
- The privacy floor is relaxed for the pilot so there is something to show; production runs at the full floor.
